Description

This recording includes the complete organ works of the great romantic English composer, choral director and organist, George Thalben-Ball. Also included are a number of pieces which were either dedicated to Sir George or frequently performed by him. This disc was recorded on the magnificent pipe organ built in 1930 by the Skinner Organ Company in Rosary Cathedral, Toledo, Ohio. This instrument was designed and finished by E. M. Skinner, and represents the builder's full maturity. The organ is in totally original condition and speaks into the superb acoustics of the Cathedral's vast nave. Todd Wilson was in high school when he began practicing and assisting at Rosary Cathedral, and now some thirty years later knows exactly how to show every tonal color and texture in this 75-rank landmark symphonic instrument. Mr. Wilson's supreme musicianship will keep you on the edge of your seat as he plays a widely varied program of rarely heard but excellent music of a bygone era.

Special thanks to Quimby Pipe Organs for their generous financial support of this recording.
