JAV 107 On A Summer’s Evening — Timothy Smith Timothy Smith continues the tradition of top-notch organists at the Riverside Church with this superb recital performed there in 1998. An energetic rendition of Elgar’s "Pomp and Circumstance" opens this live recording with panache. The organ’s vast resources are fully displayed in repertoire ranging from Bach’s C minor Passacaglia to the lovely "Aria" by Paul Manz to Reubke’s fiery "Sonata on the 94th Psalm." Larry King’s "Resurrection" traverses many 20th-century compositional idioms in four programmatic sections — Lament, the Rising, the Ecstasy, and Reflection — and is a fascinating work.
